Community Development Programs

palm tree fruitsDestinee Charity Foundation is in the process of seeking funding, $96,000 (USD), for a palm (Elaeis guineensis) tree plantation that will be located on 20 hectares that the Mabeya have acquired for their communities. The project is supposed to commence in September of this year. The costs include:

  • The development process. This starts with the manual clearing of the forest; this is done manually with the use of machetes and removal of forest trees with electric equipment such as chain saws. After tree removal is completed, a passage is created by manually removing logs, which will be used for other projects, so that the palm trees can be planted.
  • Acquiring and Planting Palm Fruits. Palm tree fruits are nursed and then transplanted in the farm as from the month of April. One hundred and forty three palm tree fruits are planted per each hectare. Within three years after planting the fruits, fruits can be harvested from the trees. After 6 years a palm reaches maturity. 20  tonnes of finished fruits bunches can be harvested every year per 1 hectare or 4 ton of red palm oil per year per 1 hectare. The palm production life is 28-35 years.
  • Upkeep of the farm for 3 years before production.

As soon as the palm plantation has started producing, no additional expenses will be required to upkeep the plantation.

The scope of this project is to help the organization, the donors, who shall finance the project and the poor community. Destinee Charity Foundation is inviting suitable international organizations with local development plans for Africa, to negotiate to set up this community project.
